the dirt from umbria

up in the hills of umbertide huddled in civitella ranieri center, we are surrounded by farms. tabacco, corn and hay. also some olive orchards and fruit trees like FIGS! also all the neighbors have small kitchen gardens. cabbage, greens and some peppers. most people in this region look down upon buying lettuce at the market. everyone grows their own. there is also a program here called 'agriturismo' that was meant to save family farms by turning them into bed and breakfasts with farming as the touristic draw. check the link above for more info.
